Czech-Polish Literary Context (1970–1979)

Poslední, Petr

In the process of reception of Polish literature during “normalisation” period so called “grey zone” is considered to play an important interpretation role. Specific interpretation tactics are applied both to the choice of book titles and decontextualization of different work interpretations, together with artistic tendencies. The reasons for such an attitude lie in the field of different stratification of literary public of both included countries, but they also depend on different concept of Czech “samizdat” if compared to Polish independent (second) circulation and different understanding of emigration groups and generation programmes. There is the process of gradual integration of national literature typical for Poland, on the contrary destruction of standard literary system in the Czech context. While the Polish situation tests the truth validity of words, the Czech desintegration leads to blurring of the meaning and function of any kind of literary utterance.
