Central Europe as an Artistic Category. Neurosis and Sensitivity

Górska, Urszula

The article shows the Central European region from a perspective of artistic, mental and cultural community. In this area we may distinguish a common sensitivity while reading cultural and literature texts. This specific sensitivity is being dictated by a common historical experience, e.g. the Ottoman threat, the Habsburg Monarchy, Second World War, the Holocaust, the communist system. The author reports different opinions of many writers from the region – Milan Kundera, György Konrád, Czesław Miłosz – on Central European identity. What does it really mean to be a Central European?
