Central European contexts of slovak historical romances

Káša, Peter

This paper deals with different views on Hungarian history and Slovak-Hungarian relations at the late 17th and early 18th centuries anad analyzes two different kinds of poetics of Slovak historical romances. As a result of this, the authors argues that  in Samuel Tomášik‘s fiction Slovak folklore and national aspect dominates, in his fiction Ján Kalinčiak uses more specific poetics and depiets individual human fates in the context of Hungarian gentry tradition.
